Looking Ahead

two techs assisting a patient in an MRI

Every day, health care advances forward with new technologies and treatments that revolutionize patient care. Accordingly, Stephens Memorial Hospital has laid the groundwork for two exciting imaging service upgrades in 2021. These investments in advanced imaging technology ensure that our community continues to receive high-quality care close to home.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Scanner

In February, we installed a new MRI system called Revolution™ EVO at Stephens Memorial Hospital. Construction is now underway to complete the necessary upgrades to house our new system. With higher resolution than previous technologies, the Revolution™ EVO system will improve productivity and diagnostic accuracy while providing a better patient experience during the imaging procedure:

  • High-quality scans at a low radiation dose
  • Operator can spend more time with the patient and less time in front of a computer
  • Reduced noise during the procedure
  • Faster rotation speeds that allow for shorter exam times

Breast Tomosynthesis Scanner

In 2021, Stephens will also undergo renovations to accommodate a new Breast Tomosynthesis Scanner. This new digital technology will transform our breast imaging services – improving our ability to diagnose breast cancer, even when there are no signs or symptoms of illness. The scanner produces a 3D mammogram by combining multiple breast X-rays to create a three-dimensional picture of the breast. We expect construction to begin in the fall of 2021.

Our 2021 SMH Annual Fund will help fund the purchase of the Breast Tomosynthesis Scanner. Learn more about supporting our Annual Fund.
